You'll always be missed.

Dizzy.
That’s how you feel when you run into a significant other you haven’t seen in a long time. A bitter avalanche of icy memories plows into your chest at breakneck speed, stealing the very breath from your lungs. Gasping for air, there’s really no use fighting it; the blow is instantaneous and it’s overpowering. Your eyes land on this person, your heart immediately stops dead, your knees go weak and you internally panic. You force yourself to walk over, but before either of you say hello, you’ve already got an endless amount of things you secretly want to say and an equally lengthy list of questions you wish you could ask.
What affection the two of you once shared was absolutely beautiful, consequently rendering any unanticipated meetings thereafter twice as awkward. But as everyone always reminded you, life has a way of operating, God has a mysterious way of working, and sometimes things change without a moment’s warning. Even after it was all said and done, it’s still hard to imagine how things could’ve ever evolved from “always” to “never” in what seemed like a single dramatic heartbeat.
Months and months later, you run into this particular person unexpectedly and the realization hits you like a brick wall. The pain is still there. It’s almost as painful as the night you said goodbye. Enough time has passed to con you into thinking you’ve begun to heal, and of course you probably have, but then you see this person and suddenly those old familiar aches begin to hurt all over again. You were finally beginning to mend after what happened, the relationship withered and ended, however dramatically, but the moment you lock eyes with this person you once shared so many dreams with, your stomach turns and a bitter taste fills your mouth. You can barely breathe. Half of you aches for things to be the way they once were, the other half longs to forget the whole thing ever happened. Regardless of your role in the conclusion of the relationship, it left you shattered and bringing it up after all this time would only pour another dose of potent heartbreak for both of you.
So there you are, standing face-to-face, unsure of what to say aside from the typical small talk jabber. A myriad of emotions swirl through both your heads but they only make former lovers more confused. Maybe you hug an awkward I-haven’t-seen-you-in-forever gesture, but that familiar mixed scent of perfume and cologne makes it even more impossible to know how to act, brief as the impending conversation inevitably will be. You just can’t stop thinking “things will never be the way they used to be” and that’s what hurts most. You both know where your identities lie, Who ultimately claims your hearts and where your fortresses are… and those things are truly what matter most, but this unforeseen meeting is still severely painful and there’s no denying that. It keeps you both awake for nights.
How true.

What a difference a day makes
We spend our whole lives worrying about the future, planning for the future, trying to predict the future, as if figuring it out will cushion the blow. But the future is always changing. The future is the home of our deepest fears and wildest hopes. But one thing is certain when it finally reveals itself. The future is never the way we imagined it.
Everyone focus too much on the future. Planning it, working towards it but at some point you start to realize your life is happening now. This is it, it’s here. Blink and you'll miss it
Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow.
Thank you. Rest in Peace, Yasmin Ahmad.

The summer breeze
I hate it.
Many times you appeared in my dream. Are you there? or are you just a decoy dream in my head?
I hate sitting there alone, awake and missing the scent of sandalwood

Imaginary
Today is one of those days where I have a million things to do at once, and no inspiration. Staring into the mirror I put on my sun glass, fixed hair and realised life can be miserable.
One day I’m writing a paper on Media Law, and then next my term break is over. I can barely recall the last time I had fun. “Something is missing,” I mumble to myself.
Sometimes if I'm melancholy; it is not because of the endless deadlines. It is the awful knowledge on friends. The mind game was everywhere, friends who pretend to be your friend and then fucking bitch about you (if only I can find the word for it in my brain). I'm tired of people demanding from me and lying right in my face.
When reality hits me in the face it is dreadful, I need to just – get out. Escape. “The pressure on friends and trust is torturing, it is disturbing. I hate it.” I said dryly to my reflection, a little shiver went through me.
Somehow, somewhere deep down inside, I think I kind of miss the life in the States. Life was simple then, although I had no direction in life but I’ve never been happier. When I think of it, I feel a sense of relief. I’m constantly looking back into the photos in search for inspiration and an attempt to cheer myself up.
“I’m someone who is sort of nostalgic and sentimental. (In Ems-way)”
Within seconds, I found myself drifted into this time-travelling machine. Rewind, stop and play – New York City. The smell of New York City is still etched on my mind.
New York City
“Ever fallen in love with somewhere?”
“I did.”
I love New York City. There is something about New York City, something special about it that made me fell in love with the city.
It is the buildings that make the city; it is the people, the central park, the Statue of Liberty, the antique shops, the nightlife, the yellow cabs, the subway system, the anxiety of cultures, race and ages – maybe it is all these that shaped the Big Apple. It is an American dream.
After a good dose of sunny Los Angeles and I couldn’t wait for New York City. I felt a sense of panic as I stepped out the plane.
I suffered a minor state of shock. My version of NYC was always about men in perfectly tailored suit walking down Wall Street and ladies with well manicured fingers and a Harry Winston diamond ring on their middle finger, exclaiming "Oh My God!" as they stroll along Fifth Avenue in their four inches high Prada heels.
As soon as I walk down the streets of 7th Avenue New York, it felt like someone whacked me in the head. It wasn’t the coolest and most hip-and-happening area. The New York City I’ve seen is peopled with different accents, skin colours and financial status. Nothing remotely close to Sex and the City or even The Devil Wears Prada, everything in the movie has been magnified.
Located two blocks away is the subway. “The train do speed up travelling time, and helps to cut traffic and pollution.” I agreed. But travelling through the subway in NYC is still a horrible experience.
When I walked down to the middle of the platform I became nervous. I stood in the cold waiting for the next train; 15 minutes later the trains rumble passed us and stopped. The door opens, and oh god! The stench was unbearable and this was when hell starts.
During the rush hour the train feels like one of those over-crowded parties whereby it is filled with people who smelled like puke, it was a ticket to hell.
“42 Street, Time Square”, the voice came from the speaker. It’s my stop! “Excuse me, Sorry, Excuse me, Sorry Sorry…” I mumble under my breath as I try to push myself out. I managed to get out safely. It was awful, most of the time I try to avoid eye contact, foot stepping and breathing hard in their face.
Whenever I stepped in the station my head starts to spin and is desperate for fresh air. However when it comes to travel, I couldn’t afford to be a prissy princess. I’ve got to bear with it. All I have to do is keep my head down and dream of UrbanOutfitters at the end of the stop.
Time Square
Things were getting very exciting as I first step foot in Time Square. Located in the center of Manhattan lies is a pretty entertaining, glamorous, classy, ambitious yet dirty area. It is surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of people; Time Square is more than a dream. It is a place where hopes and expectation were invested by potential people.
Somehow I realized; all the streets in Manhattan have something in common.
“Everyone is running as if they are running for a Nike shoe advertisement!”
Every corner of this busy city is equivalent to a war zone where bright yellow cabs battle long tour buses that battle pedestrians who then battle against time. Why the fuck they need to run? There is 24 hours a day and it is just work! For God sake, it is not a 10 million worth Toto ticket!
Take a chill pill and relax, breathe.
Rockefeller Centre
“Behold!” a voice whispered in my ear.
And I did.
“I cannot describe how I felt when I arrived at the top of the building; it was love at first sight.”
The scenery just puts you at a loss of words.
Standing all the way up Rockefeller Centre and staring down on the glittering city was breathtaking. The sunset was impressive.
“It was better than falling in love.” It is difficult to express properly the whole experience.
Looking down at the city covered with little bright yellow-white gems, seeing small doted people and cars moving across the roads in a systematic pattern were remarkable.
New York City looked flawless for a second.
“This is the many reasons why I love this city,” I said to myself. All I wanted to do was to stand there forever. As I stood there in the wintry night, I found myself secretly wishing that he should have been here with me.
Chinatown
“I am home!” I said with relief when I arrived at Chinatown.
Swallowing almost half of Little Italy, the colorful streets are filled with old buildings, Chinese written signboards, Tang Lungs and lights decoration, it felt like mini Hong Kong during Chinese New Year.
I loved the restaurants and the food - Hong Kong noodle soup with roasted duck and Chinese tea. Every restaurant looked like it was black Friday in a mall; everyone is busy moving around in their own circle.
“Yak gor char siew pau! (One bbq pork bun)” yelled a worker.
“Hai, lei kan! (Yes, coming up!)” responded another worker.
But to them it’s just another day around here. I guess once in awhile, it is nice hearing people speaking in your own dialect.
The end of the journey
Manhattan, NYC is made up by beautiful sunsets, unique building structure, incredible craftsmanship, unexpected surprises, heartbreaking memories and so forth.
“New York, is my first love”
NYC remains as the city which will make one’s heart skip. The city has the ability to make one jump on the next plane and say "New York, here I come!". No one will ever get bored of New York City. It is a city which makes you fall in love all over again and again with their messes of people and places.
xoxo, Miss doom and gloom.
P/s: One day I can be in love with this person, and few months later it is gone. My love is never consistent. Sometime it happens at the wrong time and on the weirdest person ever. Sometimes it happen because of place and when I’m back to reality it never look and feel the same again. Because this heart skipping- stomach flipping secret is temporarily, therefore I don't do-confess.

I miss him.
The story behind my back,
I remember clearly that night, it was calm and quiet. As I walked in the house, late; I was expecting him to question me before I could even lock the doors. Surprisingly, nothing happened. I glanced over my back, I saw him sitting at his usual corner reading the newspapers while CNN news was his music.
He looked old, grumpy and exhausted. “That’s Mr. Ho,” I thought to myself. He is the person who loved food, art and life with a burning passion. He was a perfect and patient husband and a giant man who used to pick me up, swing me around till I yelled for mercy.
He sat comfortably on the wooden chair patiently waiting for me to return. I walked up to him and surprised him with Shane (Nikon dslr). He wore a euphoric grin; he was so much like a kid, all hyper and excited. He dropped his papers, switched off everything and brought me upstairs. He quickly took out all his gear and started his camera-lecture.
I questioned, he explained, we talked, we laughed, we were experimenting. That moment lasted till dawn, it felt like forever. My dad is the only man, who can tolerate my nonsense, my consistent tantrums and still love me. I did not want it to end, I felt safe, loved, pampered by his side.
Sadly, his passing happened in a blink of an eye. I had my hopes and spirit all high, I never expected it to be the last father-daughter conversation I had with him. Months later, my mother and I thought it will be a great idea to put the memories of him into a piece of art which reminds me of him everyday.
Every element in the tattoo meant something. The film camera certainly represents his love for photography and the last conversation we had. The stars reminded me of the scene where I used to be the kid who sits on his lap during movie nights. He would hugged me tightly while we were watching Lion King; it was the part where Mufasa was scolding Simba after being attacked by hyenas.
“Dad, we are pals right.”, asked Simba
“Right”, said Mufasa.
“We will always be together right?” Simba asked again.
Mufasa then explained to him, “Simba, let me tell you something that my father told me. Look at the stars, the great kings from the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone, just remember those kings will always be there to guide you. And so am I.”
As stupid as this may sound, I believe he will somehow be my stars watching over me and guide me. Lastly, I wanted his signature to be part of the art as much as I want him to always be part of my life no matter where he is.
I would give everything in this world to be my daddy’s little girl. I want to be the wide-eye innocent child who wakes up once again next to you. I want to be able to hold your hand, kiss your forehead when you’re sleeping, hear you sing along Fergie’s song “Fergalicious def- def- def- def- def- …”, and to listen to you endlessly nagging and scolding me. It will be so nice to be part of that picture once more.
I miss you.
Love, Ems
[Once you've done reading this, go pick up the phone call your dad. Tell him how much you've love him and miss him. Or when you see your dad, shower him with hugs and kisses. Appreciate him while you can, before everything is too late.]
I fried my brains for thinking too much. Le Sigh.
I will want more tattoos, but each art should have a meaning behind.
I have new resolution: Only date boys who’ve seen you cry. Pretty much IMPOSSIBLE. Cheers!

Picture of you, picture of me.
I am going to miss this place and that feeling just kills me a lil.
but Hey! looking on a brighter side, the upcoming three weeks is going to be motherchucker exciting. One week in Los Angeles, another week in New York City and lastly Canada!
gosh, I hate that I'm going to miss him. I've been searching for that someone, to show me the way, take my hand and tell me that everything will be okay; I've been searching for that someone, and now I might have found that special someone in you.
